Dr Rondhir Jithoo is a fully qualified brain and spinal Neurosurgeon. Dr Jithoo is a visiting neurosurgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Hospital, Melbourne Private Hospital and Knox Hospital. He also consults at the Epworth Group. Dr Jithoo’s main areas of interest are brain tumours and spinal surgery as well as spinal stimulation.

Dr Jithoo was raised in Durban, South Africa. His secondary schooling was completed at the Thomas Moore College in Durban where he was awarded the prize for Dux of the school in his final school year. His undergraduate medical training was undertaken at the University of Natal where he obtained the Deans commendation in the fourth year of study.

Dr Jithoo completed his internship in Durban and undertook a year of lecturing in the Department of Anatomy. During this time he lectured to medical students and nursing staff on human anatomy. Dr Jithoo then spent two years as a Registrar in general surgery and orthopedics gaining a grounding in trauma surgery and orthopedic surgery. He then commenced training in neurosurgery and completed the neurosurgery training program in South Africa, culminating in the award of the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa.

Dr Jithoo then obtained a Senior Registrar position at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and undertook two years of training in neurosurgery under the supervision of Professor Andrew Kaye. He was then awarded the Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons by examination and commenced practice as a neurosurgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he is currently still working.

Dr Jithoo is a member of the Neurosurgery Society of Australia and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons of the United States of America. He is also a member of the Spinal Arthroplasty Society and is a full member of the Australian Medical Association.

Dr Jithoo maintains an active interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and was previously the external surgical examiner for the final year MBBS students at the University of Melbourne. He is actively involved in the problem based learning syllabus of the University of Melbourne MBBS program. He is also involved in training at a post graduate level and teaches on the ASSET course of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is also an examiner for the part 1 FRACS exam of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is also involved in the definitive surgical trauma care workshop of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
